Capturing that finite moment of time just as the new leaves start to unravel from the buds. A short window of time, about a day is what the transition of this tree from bud to leaf was, a metamorphosis from starkness to lush green foliage. The sound of the tree changes shortly there after as it whispers in the wind and the form takes on a new trajectory. The birth of a new cycle and so lovely in its array of colours. This painting was created with highly textured leaves taken from the tree in autumn and hand made paper. It was painted in reverse, no space for error as the form was made painting over the oxidised metals with acrylic and letting the lower layers denote the form. I feel this concept has mileage for further exploration. In terms of its form. It could easily create a centrepiece of some size with the foliage dipping in and out of the frame. It could be created as an elongated piece creating a fengshui/tree energy for high, vaulted ceilings. Moreover a series on the journey of the cycle of trees could be interesting also from a what you leave rather than what you take away approach.
