My hieroglyph, the delta, the deities, the abundance of the past... 'Nile Boogie' portrays four playful figures in a blazing hot Egyptian setting, dancing amidst a multicoloured whirlwind. "My hieroglyph, the delta, the deities, the abundance of the past..." - Nick Coley

Nick Coley's dynamic 'Nile Boogie' immediately transports us to a blazing hot Egyptian setting. Four playful figures dance amongst a multicoloured whirlwind; we can almost feel their movement on the surface. Like flames dancing in a fire pit, the fiery sky above boasts pinks, reds and orange, whilst gashes of electric blue diffuse the heat. Painted with an abstract expressionist flair comparable to Lee Krasner, the colours within this composition totally glow on the surface. A black under-layer provides definition, combined with the tactility of the brush strokes which generates a three dimensional quality. Like an explosion of confetti – each stroke of colour dances around this dynamic composition – can you see them moving? An abstract, captivating composition which is full of mystery; we are left to piece together the narrative.
