This 2-part series by Karenina Fabrizzi is part of her more recent works, titled 'A Small Deviation of the Truth (1&2)'. Two fragmented figures are presented face to face, caught in a moment of self reflection. Are they confronting each other, or perhaps themselves? Made using a mix of found fabrics, oil paint, and gold leaf, these two figures are presented deep in thought, as though captured in a state of change or transition. This collection is all about self discovery and the idea of a new reality - both on a personal and universal level. Fabrizzi is passionate about human connection, and the need for humans to connect deeper with themselves and look towards nature in order to discover their true needs and desires. She believes in the importance of truth, within a synthetic world that is only becoming more complicated over time, with the alarming state of the environment alongside the rapid growth of technology. “Lately I am discovering a new reality in everything that we are going through – it’s time to just take the masks away and to really face ourselves, and really be brave and connect with our souls and with our hearts” Fabrizzi's works depict an urgency - a breaking point where we may come to a point of self destruction if we do not take steps for change. A hopeful series of work, perhaps these figures see an opportunity to start again, to face their destiny and fulfil their needs and desires within the limited time on earth. Presented like precious Victorian heirlooms, these pieces fuse the historic and contemporary, whilst the use of gold leaf emphasises the priceless value of life. Although these figures are reminiscent of rigid marble statues, abstract drips suggest a fluidity and change, giving the illusion of an old self melting away to make way for a fresh start. Cracks in the surface reveal layers and cells within these figures, reminding us that as humans we are vessels of cells, emotions, thoughts and feelings that are always evolving, changing and moving. Like all good art, Fabrizzi's works have the powerful ability to reach out to us and challenge how we think and feel. They push us to be brave, and to take control of our own time - any piece from Fabrizzi's collection would make a thought-provoking and valuable addition to any contemporary art collection, space, or home.
