Part of Karenina Fabrizzi's brand new series of works, 'Other Dimensional Self', this painting represents a breakthrough of self discovery - in realising our power, and the layers within us which make us human. A regal series of works, Fabrizzi has experimented rigorously to achieve a balance of refined detail and a softness, which makes her works immediately pleasing to the eye. One half of a pair of paintings, these doll-like figures are full of depth and dimension. Amongst hues of pinks, purples, and gold leaf, emerges a terrarium-like globe, which reveals what lies beneath the garments of these figures. Like sea creatures, these abstract forms take inspiration from Fabrizzi's love of diving, which heavily influences her work. She is fascinated by the other-worldly creatures and wildlife under the sea, and imbues this into her work, whilst also demonstrating our deep connection with nature. Like a crystal ball, these forms are full of mystery - there is a sense of connection with oneself and with nature, as though these figures have truly discovered a new dimension within themselves. “I am a diver – I really love and enjoy going underwater, and taking pictures of these strange creatures that we have under the sea. Under the water you have a completely different world” Fabrizzi's works are totally thought provoking and captivating. They encourage us to think about our own true needs and desires, in order to understand our complex layers as humans. Fabrizzi views the body as a container for cells, atoms, thoughts, feelings and experiences - through her paintings, she wants to express this belief, and remind us of our power; to accept our flaws and imperfections to truly reach a state of self acceptance. Details of gold leaf remind us of our value, whilst also adding subtle highlights to the overall composition, drawing the eye in. Fabrizzi takes a very fluid and intuitive approach to working, which is evident in the final product of her works - the various textures, dripping and fragmented aspects give a sense of movement throughout the works, as though they are constantly changing and evolving, in the same way we are. Many of Fabrizzi's previous works are focused around the concept of masking our true selves; these works display a turning point within her work. Here the masks are removed, exposing and embracing the flaws and fluctuations of the human condition. Fabrizzi's works encourage us to be brave - they speak to us, whilst also allowing us to apply our own meanings and narratives. They push us to live in the present, and to explore our true needs and desires. Full of texture, light, and depth, Karenina Fabrizzi's works demand to be experienced in the flesh. Dark yet delicate, with an organic palette that would compliment any space, any piece from this series would make a valuable investment, and a stunning addition to any contemporary art collection, business space or home.
